Paradigm Forms JV to Buy Airtel’s Tanzania Towers for ~$175M
Paradigm Infrastructure Limited (“Paradigm”) today announced its investment in a joint venture with SBA Communications Corporation (“SBA”) to acquire the passive wireless infrastructure of Airtel Tanzania. The transaction consists of approximately 1,400 towers for a total expected consideration of $175 million. Under this agreement, Airtel will lease back space on each of the towers and will also provide a fixed minimum number of build-to-suit towers during the first five years following the closing of the acquisition. The acquisition is anticipated to close in stages starting in the fourth quarter of 2021, subject to customary closing conditions.
Paradigm will hold a minority stake of the joint venture company acquiring the assets and maintain responsibility for the JV’s day-to-day operations. Paradigm will contribute its specific industry experience in establishing and operating new shared wireless infrastructure in African markets, complementing the extensive US and international experience of SBA.
